Eddy Current Separator

Dings Eddy Current Separators

Dings Eddy Current Separators are designed for separating fractional-sized non-ferrous metal from your product stream. They are built for dirty, dusty surroundings found at many job sites. Permanent rare earth magnets used in the separators are well-suited for industrial applications.

We designed the Dings Eddy Current Separator to have deeper magnetic fields than the standard conventional designs. This improves the rate of nonferrous separation and recovery and directly increases profits.

In addition to the deep magnetic field, several patented features set the Dings Eddy Current Separator apart from the rest. Designed for durability, easy maintenance and low-cost operation; Dings Eddy Current Separators are your industrial, non-ferrous metal recovery solution.

Eddy Current Separator Operation

Eddy Current Concentric Operation Diagram

Material is fed onto the conveyor belt of the eddy current separator, which moves it across the magnetic rotor where separation occurs (see figure below). The two streams of material discharge into a housing. The housing has a splitter to divide the nonferrous metal from the nonmetallic material, such as paper, plastic, wood or fluff. The key component of the eddy current separator is the magnetic rotor, which has a series of permanent rare earth magnets mounted on a support plate attached to a shaft. The magnetic rotor is surrounded by a wear shell which supports the conveyor belt. This allows the rotor to spin independently and at a much higher speed than the wear shell and belt.

When a piece of nonferrous metal, such as aluminum, passes over the separator, the magnets inside the rotor rotate past the aluminum at high speed. This forms eddy currents in the aluminum which, in turn, creates a magnetic field around the piece of aluminum. The polarity of that magnetic field is the same as the rotating magnet, causing the aluminum to be repelled away from the magnet. This repulsion makes the trajectory of the aluminum greater than that of the nonmetallic, allowing the two material streams to be separated.

Eccentric Model 9900

EECS 9936 with No Splitter

Our Eccentric 9900 model has a double layer shell of fiberglass and heavy duty stainless-steel that protects the “heart” of the eddy current separator, the magnetic rotor assembly. This provides maximum rotor protection that gives the equipment longer life, lower maintenance and repair costs and simplifies maintenance of equipment. The Eccentric design concentrates the magnetic field and releases any ferrous material clinging to the shell, thus reducing damage to the belt and shell – extending product life. The higher frequency magnetic pole reversal provides superior product separation. The 9900 with a 9-inch diameter magnetic rotor is ideal for recycling applications requiring separation of fractional-sized nonferrous.

ECCENTRIC 9900 FEATURES

  • Double Layer Shell Design
  • Simple adjustable components provide quick maintenance access and easy belt change
  • Rare earth magnets provide high strength and long life
  • Deep magnetic field increases non-ferrous metal recovery from your product stream
  • Designed to separate fractional-sized non-ferrous metal from your product stream

Concentric Model 9500

Eccentric 9536 No Splitter

Our Concentric 9500 model has a triple shell layer of fiberglass, heavy duty stainless-steel and ceramic tile that protects the “heart” of the eddy current separator, the magnetic rotor assembly. This provides maximum rotor protection that gives the equipment longer life, lower maintenance and repair costs and simplifies maintenance of equipment. The Concentric model is designed with heavy-duty structural steel I-beam frame and support structure, heavy-duty drive packages, oversized shafts and bearings that provide maximum reliability and longer life. The 9500 with a 13-inch diameter magnetic rotor is designed for use in processing shredded material of a size that requires the magnetic performance of this larger diameter rotor.

CONCENTRIC 9500 FEATURES

  • Triple Layer Shell Design
  • High frequency magnetic pole reversal provides superior metal separation.
  • Rare earth magnets provide high strength and long life
  • Fits easily into existing production lines
  • Easy and swift maintenance with removable and easy access components.

Splitter Assembly

The splitter assembly is adjustable for optimized non-ferrous metal separation (angle, height and distance). The splitter assembly is made out of steel construction and has large sight panels for accurate adjustments and maintenance.

EECS Belt Tracking Switch

Belt Tracking Sensor

This motion control safety sensor is used to monitor belts for misalignment. If the belt has tracked too far to one side of the conveyor, the sensor switch will shut the belt down preventing costly repairs and downtime.

Dings ECS Fixed Speed Control Panel

Fixed Speed Control Panel

This is an independent control panel that runs the belt and rotor motor. The panel includes controls to properly start and stop each motor within their standard operation timing.

Dings ECS Variable Speed Control Panel

Standard and Non-Standard Variable Speed Belt & Rotor Control Panel

An independent control panel to run the belt and rotor motors using VFD’s (variable frequency drive) to adjust acceleration and speed. It includes controls to properly start and stop each motor within their standard operation timing.

UL/CSA Control Panel

Designed and built to conform to UL STD 508, is also certified to CSA STD C22.2 No.14 and with CSA STD C22.2 No.73 for UL required applications and use in Canada.
